ThreadAbility is a hands-on sewing and garment modification program that teaches practical sewing skills with a focus on adaptive clothing. Participants learn foundational techniques such as measuring, fabric selection, basic alterations, garment repair, and simple clothing modifications that can make dressing easier, safer, and more comfortable for older adults and people with disabilities or mobility limitations.
The program also includes Vocational English as a Second Language (VESL) support, helping participants learn sewing-related English while building confidence and practical skills. Through supportive instruction and community-based projects, ThreadAbility prepares participants for future opportunities in employment, self-employment, entrepreneurship, and service to the community.
